Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 June 2026

Discovery Quest is built for young children, so privacy is a first principle, not an afterthought. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It's written to be honest and specific about how the Service actually works.

The short version

Who we are

The Service is operated by Pavel Kerbel, an individual based in Israel, who is the data controller. Contact: hello@discoveryquest.app.

What we collect, and when

1. Visiting the marketing website (discoveryquest.app)

Our public landing site uses Google Analytics to understand general traffic (pages viewed, approximate region, device/browser type). This site is aimed at parents and adults. Analytics use cookies/identifiers as described under "Cookies" below.

2. Playing the quests (Math Quest, English Quest)

The learning apps run no third-party analytics or advertising. When a child plays without a signed-in parent account, gameplay progress is stored locally on the device (in the browser) and is not sent to us.

3. Parent accounts

A parent or guardian can create an optional account (handled by our authentication provider, Clerk). For this we process the parent's email address and authentication details. Accounts are for adults (18+).

4. Backing up a child's progress

When a parent is signed in and chooses to back up progress, the app syncs the child's save to our servers so it can be restored across devices and shown on the parent dashboard. This includes the child's first name or nickname, a chosen avatar (an emoji), and learning progress (such as stars earned, time spent, and accuracy per activity). This data is stored under the parent's account and is only created when the parent signs in.

5. Narration audio

Spoken narration is generated ahead of time from our own scripts using a text-to-speech provider (ElevenLabs). We do not send a child's voice or any child input to that provider — the apps simply play pre-generated audio files.

How we use information

We do not sell personal information, show behavioural advertising to children, or use children's data to build advertising profiles.

Children's privacy (COPPA, GDPR-K, Israeli PPL)

Discovery Quest is directed to children, and we take that seriously. We are designed so that no personal information is collected from a child unless a parent or guardian creates an account and chooses to save progress — meaning a child's information is only collected with parental involvement and consent. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children without that parental step.

Parents and guardians can, at any time, review the information associated with their account, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — including their child's saved progress. To do so, email hello@discoveryquest.app. We aim to honour these requests consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU GDPR (including protections for children), and Israel's Privacy Protection Law.

Who we share with (service providers)

We don't sell your data. We use a small set of trusted providers to run the Service, who process data only on our behalf:

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of users.

Cookies

Our marketing website uses Google Analytics cookies/identifiers for aggregate analytics. The learning apps use device/browser storage to keep gameplay progress working — this is functional, not advertising tracking. You can clear this storage in your browser at any time.

Data retention

We keep a child's saved progress while the parent's account is active. If you ask us to delete it, or when an account is closed, we delete the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain something to comply with law.

Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Parents can exercise these rights for their child's data. To make a request, email hello@discoveryquest.app. You can also opt out of analytics using browser controls or the Google Analytics opt-out.

Where data is processed

We operate from Israel, our servers run in the EU (London), and some providers (e.g., Clerk, Google, ElevenLabs) operate in the United States. This means your information may be processed in countries other than your own; we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to limit what we collect in the first place.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. We'll change the date above and, for material changes, provide reasonable notice.
